My passion is to experience and photograph wildlife and wild places. Having photographed the natural world for more than twenty years, I am indebted to my father, Maurice Miller, for growing up in an environment of photography. I learned early that training the eye to observe and understand our surroundings is the key to nature photography.
My priority is to first consider the well-being and safety of my subject. Often, this requires super-long telephoto lenses, so that the wildlife remains perfectly comfortable, undisturbed by my presence. In the creation of my nature images displayed here, all was natural and wild- the truthful way it was seen. With the ‘digital darkroom’, I avoid over-manipulation, sticking to the traditional darkroom techniques only. Nature is full of discovery; occasionally finding a truly wild mountain lion or wild wolf is fantastic!
My original, signed photographic prints- ‘ultrachrome giclees’- are on archival paper using the latest state-of-the-art laser and digital technology. Life expectancy of these archival prints is expected to exceed sixty to one hundred years when kept in normal indoor circumstances.
Publications of mine include numerous magazines, calendars and books. For editorial purposes all my images are quality scanned, corrected to RGB or CMYK and supplied digitally on CDs along with match prints
I hope that my photographs, in any small way, will further advance appreciation and conservation efforts for this treasure known at the West. Being fortunate to own wonderful Canon EOS equipment and living at the northern border of Yellowstone National Park is a dream come true. The wildlife paradise of Yellowstone, the Icon of the West, is literally my backyard!.
